I go by Lani Flowers on the internet, but feel free to call me Leilani.

I’m 23. Born in Jamaica, raised in Broward County, Florida, and spent my high school and “college years” in North Texas. Currently serving in USN.

 

I was raised Apostolic Christian. Pastor’s kid. I’ve always been a very spiritual person, and when I was in high school decided to explore other avenues of spirituality aside from Christianity. Although when I turned 18 I decided to return to my Christian roots, my era of exploration is arguably one of the best decisions I’ve made. I pride myself on not having a narrow mind, and enjoy listening to viewpoints that differ from my own. Like Planet Fitness this is a “Judgement Free Zone”. 

 

Well.. mostly. There are some hot topics I choose not to discuss. Politics being one of them. I grew up with half my family being very right wing and the other half being left wing, and unless I feel like you’re not gonna eat my head off if I express my true opinions, I will gladly keep them to myself and sit comfortably in the section reserved for moderates.

 

While I have the emotional intelligence to keep my mouth shut when I feel I need to, I do identify as a D1 Yapper. I enjoy intellectual and stimulating conversations, but sometimes people don’t like sharing their opinions with me… something about me being “stubborn and defensive” comes up sometimes. The truth is that although I do think I’m right most of the time, I’m always up for a FRIENDLY debate, I do want to hear your perspective, and when good points are presented, or if I feel you’ve proved me wrong altogether (rare), I do express that– even if it’s not immediately!

 

It’s no fun bantering with people who are thin-skinned though, likewise for people who simply cannot see another perspective besides their own. So for the most part, when I’m interacting with people one on one, I do my best to behave in an agreeable manner. As someone who values transparency, I just wanna say… that can be so draining. Thank God for Blog. On Blog, I can be as candid, dare I say charismatic, and most of all expressive as I please.

 

To be clear, this blog is not just so that I can sit upon my soapbox and squeal, it’s because I genuinely value communication and I feel that when an open line is kept, minds are kept sharp. Iron does sharpen iron after all. With that said, your feedback will be crucial to me. Grow With The Flow isn’t just a cutesie name I picked because of “Flowers” but actually the foundation of what I seek to accomplish with this platform. 

 

I’m a Flower that is constantly growing. Can we be Buds? Can we root for each other and watch each other grow? If you made it this far, I will be so bold as to assume that you will love it here.
